Obituary

Joseph M. Apollonio, born on January 10th, 1976 in Sleepy Hollow, died at his home on August 18th, 2020 at the age 44 after a tough battle with cancer. At the time of his death, he lived with his wife and kids in Hopewell Junction.

Known as Joe to those who loved him, he was born in Sleepy Hollow, NY and grew up in Irvington, NY. He played football and wrestled in high school until he went off to college. After attending college at SUNY Cobleskill, he entered the work force and finally settled at the Department of Public Works in Tarrytown where he worked for 18 years.

Joe married Ana Correia in Sleepy Hollow on June 30th, 2001 and settled in Ossining until they began a family. Ana began working as an elementary school teacher in Briarcliff Manor and they began to build a life together. During this time, he rediscovered his love of cooking and earned his culinary arts degree from the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC. He loved cooking for friends and was so proud to have finished his degree. After the birth of their first child, Justin, in 2009, they built their forever home in Hopewell Junction, settling for a quiet life in the country while still commuting to Westchester. In 2014, they welcomed their twin girls, Brooke and Morgan.
Together, Joe and Ana continued to create a life together surrounded by amazing friends, raising children, and finding joy in the simple things in life. They discovered a love for exploring new farms, finding local eats and frequenting local breweries. Joe was a kind and loving father who cherished his time with his family. Watching his children discover what they were passionate about was his greatest achievement. He loved sharing his love of music with Justin while rejoicing in shadow puppets and guessing games with his girls before bedtime. He will be missed by so many who called him friend.

Joe is predeceased by his father, Remo, and both grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Ana, his son Justin, 11, and his daughters, Brooke, 6, and Morgan, 6. He is also survived by his sister, Marietta (Nick) and nephew, Henry, his mother, Dolores, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his in-laws who reside in Portugal, brother-in-law, Joao, nephew Liam and niece, Anna. He took his last breath surrounded by family and a tight group of friends and he will be deeply missed.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Monday at the funeral home.
