Joseph A. Battista, Jr. age 70, a longtime resident of Poughquag, passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY on Saturday July 20, 2024, surrounded by the family that loved him.
Joe was born on January 16, 1954, in the Bronx, NY to the late Joseph Sr. and Elena (Ulisse) Battista.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Yvonne, and their two sons Thomas, and Eric.
Joe is also survived by his sisters, Danelle Powers and Dia (Anthony) Ramos; his brother Bennet (Marlyne) Battista; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was also predeceased by his sister Daria (Keith) Russo.
Joe attended Cardinal Hayes High School and Westchester Community College. Joe graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College.
Joe worked as an Environmental Engineer for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for 32 years until his retirement in 2018.
Joe was an avid Yankee fan and outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, playing pickleball, also cross-country skiing and hiking in his youth. Joe also enjoyed watching a variety of professional sports.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 2nd from 5-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 3rd at 10 am at St. Denis Church, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at Beekman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
