Joseph J. Boniello, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2012 surrounded by family.
Born in Peekskill on July 30, 1936, he was the son Federico and Rose.
In 1957, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Mary Horan, who was the love of his life. She survives at home.
He is also survived by his seven adoring children: Joseph Jr. and his wife Catherine, James, John, Jeffrey and his wife Theresa, Jay, Joanne, and Jennifer and her fiancé, Tim Fetzer. He was "Pop-Pop" and loved dearly by his seven grandchildren, Joseph III (J.T.), Stephen, James, Michael, Christopher, Katherine, and Heather.
He was pre-deceased by siblings John, Rose Gaudinier, Carmen and Anna Piucci and is survived by Fred and Katherine LeMatty. Joe was an exceptional brother-in-law to Ann Horan-Hemsing, Joan Boniello and Paul LeMatty. He was a beloved uncle and great-uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe lived a life of integrity, grace and service. He was a man of faith and served as a lector at The Church of the Assumption in Peekskill for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's in Fishkill. He served with the Air National Guard from 1954-1960 and was a volunteer with Centennial Hose fire department for over fifty years and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, both in Peekskill.
He worked for John Hancock until his retirement. Joe will be remembered for his devotion to his family, traveling, playing golf, bowling and cheering on his favorite team, the New York Yankees.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 16th at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 17th at 11:30am at The Church of the Assumption, 131 Union Ave., Peekskill, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 54, Beacon, NY 12508 or the Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center, to benefit the South Circle 5 Unit (please write "restricted to SC5" in the memo"), 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
