Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Joseph W. Bruno, 73, an area resident for the last 2 years, died on July 25, 2021 at home. He previously lived in Bethpage, Long Island.

Born in Brooklyn on September 24, 1947, Joseph was the son of the late Louis and Julia (Maher) Bruno. He proudly served in the US Marine Reserves. Joseph was self-employed as a Certified Public Accountant until his retirement and was a former owner of the Bethpage Park Stables.

Joe's personality was described as bigger than life. He mesmerized generation after generation of family members and friends with magic tricks, and even amazed some family pets with his disappearing ball tricks. At gatherings, Joe could be found involved in lively debates about any topic, often taking the opposing opinion just for fun. An avid TV fan, he relished watching reruns of his favorite shows, such as The West Wing and Dallas. He was a jokester who adored making his family and friends laugh, while also being incredibly kind and generous with both his time and resources. Joe will be remembered as the one person with which you'd always pick to go to an amusement park. His biggest joy and pride in life was his family, and his devotion to them was absolute.

On November 14, 1970 on Long Island, he married Donna (Plesh) Bruno. His wife of 50 year survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Julie Ann Bruno-Burton, and her husband James of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Deskin and Chayton Burton; his siblings, Julia Bruno, Mary Friedman and her husband Steve, and Charles Bruno; his brother-in-law, Howard Hughes; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maryanne and Timothy Carey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joseph was also predeceased by his grandson, Jake Burton; and his sister, Patricia Hughes.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 9:00-10:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville with military honors.
