Joseph A. Ferrigno, a resident of Fishkill and formerly of Montgomery, New York and Queens, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 63.
Born on August 13, 1960, he was raised in Queens. He studied at St. John's University, where he earned both a Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate. He also received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Marist College.
Joseph was a member of the Parish Council of St. Mary's Church in Fishkill as well as being an active member of the New York State, Dutchess, Ulster County Bar Association.
As an attorney, Joseph operated his own law practice for many years. He then went on to work for Feldman, Kleidman, Coffey & Sappe in Fishkill, the Ulster County Public Defender's Office and most recently joined the Dutchess County Public Defender's Office. He worked in family court and was a strong advocate for children and their rights. He was passionate in serving members of the community who need help the most. Even though he faced health challenges over the last year, he was steadfast in seeking justice for his clients and their families.
On October 19, 1991, he married Beth Ann Jones at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. They have two daughters, Cassidy and Anna, and Joseph was a dedicated provider for his family. Beth survives at home in Fishkill.
He is also survived by his mother, Canice Ferrigno of Bayside, Queens; his sister, Eileen Ong & her husband Dr. Jimmy Ong of Alexandria, VA; his Aunt Maureen Ryan of Bayside as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Alfred J. Ferrigno, in April of 2020.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 20 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 21 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.
