Joseph Michael Grigioni, 87, of East Fishkill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his loving, devoted family. He was born on June 6, 1933, Bronx NY to Peter and Mildred (Caramanna) Grigioni. Along with his parents Joe was pre-deceased by his sister Doris Dolce and brother Neil Grigioni.
Graduating from the School of Aviation Trades, his love of aircrafts was nurtured. A proud American, Joe enlisted in the US Navy and served his country on the USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier 43. He was Honorably Discharged with Rank of 3rd Class Aviation Electricians Mate 1952-1960. Along with being a top aircraft mechanic, Joe joined the Naval Boxing Club. With a tender heart, but tough as nails, he proudly would tell you he never lost a fight. A lover of music and dancing he met his sweetheart while in the Navy, a perfect pair of 62 years. He married his sweetheart and the love of his life Loretta Deiana and had two daughters.
Joe was a retired Maintenance Supervisor at Green Haven Correctional Facility. There he was a teacher and mentor of many people who worked along side him. Prior to his employment at Green Haven, Joe was experienced in many trades including, building, elevator mechanics, oil burner mechanics and much more. A beautiful and loving man with a compassionate soul and a generous caring nature, he was always there to help anyone at any time. If something was broken, you could call on Joe day or night and he would be there to fix it. Not only would he fix your problem, but he loved to talk and teach you about what he was doing and how you could learn to do it too. Sharing his knowledge, experience and funny stories with others was his joy.
Joe loved working with his hands and became a self taught WoodWorker. He could be heard through his neighborhood, singing and dancing around his workshop day and night. Amongst all the beautiful things he built, his legacy is the wonderfully loving; family he built who will miss him so terribly. Joe is survived by his adoring wife Loretta, cherished daughters JoAnn Barnes and June Killeen and caring son in law Rob Killeen. Cherished Grandchildren Joshua Barnes and spouse Liz, Samantha Barnes, Stephen Killeen, and Joseph Killeen. Adored great-grandchildren Connor and Emma Barnes and many cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also many, many close extended family members, friends and neighbors.
