Putnam Valley- Joseph J. Garan III, a resident of Putnam Valley, and previously of Yonkers, passed away suddenly at home on March 11, 2022. He was 63.
Born in Yonkers on July 15, 1958, he was the son of Joseph J. and Rita P. (Rubeo) Garan.
Growing up, Joe participated in many activities including baseball, football, golf, skiing, and motocross. Joe attended Arlington High School, graduating in 1976. He earned his bachelor's degree from Iona College in New Rochelle. Joe was a collegiate athlete, representing Manhattan College on their baseball team. He enjoyed playing and teaching golf, fishing, snowboarding, hockey, bowling, and was a skilled musician on the bass, guitars, and drums. According to him, he "excelled in all".
Joe dedicated 20 years to the Yonkers Fire Department before his retirement as Lieutenant in 2017. Joe also worked for Garan Carting and Garan Salvage.
Survivors include his loving children, Joseph of Canandaigua and Lauren of Stamford; his grandson, Tyler John of Stamford; his mother, Rita Garan of Lagrangeville; his siblings, Lori and Val Polidoro of Ossining; Patti and John Higham of Lagrangeville; Diane and Ralph Roberto of Lagrangeville; Jenn and Joe Guerriero of Westminster, Colorado; Joe and Liz Santamorena of Brewster; his longtime companion, Debbie Musgrave of Yorktown Heights; 8 nieces; 7 nephews; 4 great nieces; 1 great nephew; and many loving friends.
Joe was predeceased by his brother, Michael Garan in 2014 and his father, Joseph Garan in 2018.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. from 4pm-8pm, 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, New York. Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 11 am, St Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82 Lagrangeville, New York.
