Joseph J. LaScolea, 83, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of the Bronx, died on August 20, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Joe was born in Yonkers, NY on September 11, 1940.

Joe had been employed as the Controller for the Hodgkins Agency in Poughkeepsie for many years. However, music was really his life! He was a radio host and disc jockey for WHVW for more than 40 years. He also loved DJing dances, weddings and parties. Joe was a great collector of music - from vinyls to CDs and more. He enjoyed hosting seasonal parties for family and friends and spared no expense on decorations and candy for the neighborhood kids during holidays. From spring through the fall, he could be found watching the Yankees or meticulously maintaining his lawn and landscaping.

Joe is survived by his brother, Dr. Leonard LaScolea, Jr. of Williamsville, NY; his nephews, Jason (Cheri) LaScolea of Corning, NY, James LaScolea of Stowe, VT, Bradley (Gabrielle) LaScolea of Westfield, NJ and Paul (Caitlin) LaScolea of Chicago, IL; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Joe had a multitude of friends who were like family to him including Brud (Lori) Hodgkins, Christopher (Jennifer) Wimmers, Bill (Tara) Boettger, Kristine Bargo, Todd Emslie, Vincent Giandalone, Jordan Stoner and many others.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Leonard LaScolea, Sr. and Lucy (Subrizi) LaScolea, and his sister-in-law Felecia (Maltese) LaScolea.

On Saturday, September 14 at 11am at St. Denis Cemetery, Joe's cremains will be buried with his parents. A Celebration of his Life will follow at 12pm at his home.
