Obituary

Joseph W. Litchauer, 80, of Hopewell Junction, NY passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 23, 1941, Joseph grew up in Hawthorne, NY. While attending Pleasantville High School, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Intrepid, [CV-11] from 1959 - 1962. Once the USS Intrepid was decommissioned and became a museum in NYC, Joe held various positions with the USS Intrepid Former Crew Members Association, including Vice President, President and a member of the Board of Directors. He spent many a day on the Intrepid volunteering his time.

In 1962, he married his childhood sweetheart, Diane Dwyer. In 1968, they moved to Yorktown Heights, NY where he would remain a resident there for 35 years, raising his family. While in Yorktown, he served as an usher at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak, NY. He also spent many years serving as coach for the Shrub Oak Athletic Club for baseball and softball for his children. Joe worked for many years as a Scientific Glass Blower, and he also entertained the neighborhood children with his glass blowing, making "pennies in a jar". He retired in 2019 from the Service Dealers & Automotive Services of Greater New York as an area representative.

Son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Jenkins) Litchauer, Joseph is also predeceased by the love of his life Diane, his second wife Kathryn Litchauer, and a sister Jane Litchauer. He is survived by his children; Susan (Lawrence) Eckert, Joseph (Dawn) Litchauer, Karen (Steven) Quinn, and several stepchildren including Katherine (Jon) Jennings. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda (SSG Dale) Miller, Alexandra (Mark) Pelaccio, Connor Knapp, Elizabeth Eckert, Kelly Quinn, Nicole Quinn, Jamie Quinn, Kevin Litchauer, Amber Litchauer, Brian (Natalia) Jennings, and Sean Jennings, several step grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Frances Votrian, Agnes Doria, Daniel Litchauer, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
