Obituary

Joseph V. McCloskey, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Wingate at Beacon. He was 85.
Son of the late Joseph and Mary (Komar) McCloskey, he was born in Wappingers Falls on November 26, 1929. Joe attended and graduated from the Wappingers Central School District.
He was employed by I.B.M. from 1948 to 1965 as a senior buyer, and then went to work for Accurate Precision Corp. in Englewood, NJ as a sales manager, where he remained until 1996. At that time, he began working for Cox Corp. in Newburgh and retired in 2008.
Joe served as Mayor of the Village of Fishkill for six terms and then as a Trustee. He also served on many county committees while in office. He was a life member of the Mase-Hook Ladder Co. in Beacon and former member of S.W. Johnson, Co. in Wappingers Falls. He also belonged to the Southern Dutchess Country Club in Beacon and served many years on the board of the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
He loved football, especially the New York Giants, and in his youth had played on the high school and former Beacon Bears football team.
On March 25, 1950, he married Sally Anne Green at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past March. Mrs. McCloskey survives at home in Fishkill.
Joe is also survived by his children, Michael McCloskey & his wife Valerie of Hilton Head, SC, Kathleen Scott & her husband Stephen of Montgomery Center, VT, Barbara McIntyre of Townsend, VT, and Margaret Salamone & her husband Anthony of Rhinebeck; his grandchildren, Kelly Mayette, Sean & Erin McCloskey, and Marc & Meghan Salamone; his great-grandchildren, Jordon and Avery Mayette; his brother, John McCloskey & his wife Margaret of Winter Haven, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and may other loving relatives & friend.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Mark Joseph, who was stillborn on July 25, 1956.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
