Joseph James McDonough, 54, passed away suddenly in Winchester, VA on Friday, August 25, 2023.
He was born in Cold Spring, NY on February 17, 1969, the beloved son of James and Isabel, and grew up in Fishkill, NY. He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY; earned his bachelor's degree from Fordham University; and his master's degree from New York University.
Joe's career was focused on the finance industry, and he worked for several wealth management and stock exchange companies throughout his lifetime.
He enjoyed countless hobbies, including tennis, golf, reading, and movies. He was also an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He loved the ocean, but his favorite pastime was going to the Saratoga Race Course. For the past 22 years, he resided in Charlotte, NC, where he devoted much of his time as a basketball coach and advocate for local youth.
He is survived by his son, Joseph J. McDonough, of Charlotte, NC; his mother, Isabel McDonough & her husband Glenn Scofield, Sr. of Fishkill, NY; his father, James McDonough of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; his sister, Michele Berlingieri & her partner Geoffrey Lyons; his nieces, Marissa, Sara, Jenna, and Kathleen; his great-nephews, Braylin and E.J.; and his former wife and friend, Catherine McDonough.
Joe is also survived by his longtime partner, Amara Kea, along with her daughter, McKenna.
Joe was predeceased by his grandparents on both the Bitil and McDonough sides; and his cousin, Barbara Cardaropoli.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 31 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 8 p.m. following the visitation. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2 at Cold Spring Cemetery, 35 Peekskill Road, Cold Spring, NY.
