Obituary

Joseph R. McGinty, Sr., 69, a lifelong area resident, died on April 8, 2026 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in the Bronx on March 17, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Blanche (Goss) McGinty. Joseph proudly served our country in the US Navy toward the end of the Vietnam War. He had been employed as a truck driver for many years including driving for Ryan Sand and Gravel and JSK Sand and Gravel.

Joseph was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing, bowling and hunting.

On March 21, 1987 at the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church, Joseph married Pamela LaForge who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Joseph McGinty, Jr.; his siblings and their spouses, Andrew and Nancy Smith, Kathleen Hennessy, and Susan and David Scalzo; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, John Hennessy.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 17 from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction with a funeral service at 7:30pm. There will be a graveside service with military honors in the Garden Gazebo at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery on Saturday, April 18 at 10am.

Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
