Joseph P. Ratigan, a lifelong local area resident, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was 71.
Son of the late William B. and Madelyn Brown Ratigan, he was born in Glens Falls on June 2, 1942. For many years Joseph held a delivery route for Wonder Bread, serving the area of Orange and Ulster Counties. After his retirement, he worked part-time for FoodTown in Cold Spring.
He was a member of the Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps, but Joe's primary passion was golf. An avid golfer, he spent countless hours on the course and enjoyed visiting many different country clubs with his friends and fellow golfers.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Basso of Beacon; brother, Martin W. Ratigan & his wife Susan of Wappingers Falls; sister, Kathleen Sheldon & her husband Tedd of Texas; sister, Ann Liberty & her husband Daniel of Florida; many nieces and nephews, but especially Caryn Morales & her husband Michael of Beacon, along with their children Emily, Logan Joseph & Julia Morales. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Francis G. Basso in 2006.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery in Beacon.
