Joseph Resta's Obituary
Joseph P. Resta, 81, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 48 years and formerly of Poughkeepsie, died on Friday, November 20, 2015 at his home.
Born in Harlem, NY on May 23, 1934, he was the son of Donato and Constance Mastrovito Resta. Joe attended Poughkeepsie High School where he graduated Class of 1953 and proudly served in the US Army. He attended and graduated the Lincoln Extension Institute and IBM Apprenticeship program in 1959 and was employed as a Tool & Die Maker, and Purchaser for IBM in East Fishkill. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Joerene Sales in Hopewell Junction with his wife.
Joe coached East Fishkill Little League and CYO Basketball. He enjoyed history, swimming, baseball history, music, dancing, traveling and was an avid Yankees fan. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He especially enjoyed his winters in Clearwater Beach, FL.
On September 21, 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, Joe married Irene Thorsdale who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Christine Lacenere and her husband John of Plainsboro, NJ, Joseph Resta and his wife Theresa of Fenton, MI, and Mary Resta and her fiancé Leo Johnton of Middletown; his grandchildren, Sara and Justin Carbone, Katie Lacenere, Stephanie Lacenere, Daniel Resta, Anthony Resta, Julia Resta, Pvt. Ryan Resta (USMC), and Harris Kumer; and his niece, Jennifer Resta DiMasi. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his twin brother, John Resta.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery with military honors.
