Joseph Peter Ruggiero, 70, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1971 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in New York City on October 9, 1942, he was the son of Joseph and Frances Ruggiero. Joseph proudly served our country in the US Marines Corps for 6 years and the National Guard for 2 years. He was employed by the New York City Sanitation Department for 20 years until his retirement in 1988.
Joseph coached little league for 15 years in the Town of Wappinger and had served as President for many years of the Joe Schneider Memorial League at Fishkill Bowl.
On July 29, 1967 at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx, Joseph married Carol LaPietro who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Joseph Ruggiero and his wife Stephanie of Wappingers Falls; his daughter, Carola Ruggiero and her husband, Richard Benetti of Wappingers Falls; his grandson, Michael Ruggiero; and his brother, Richard Ruggiero of Larchmont.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls followed by interment with military honors in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
