Joseph E. Schiess, Jr., 82, a Stormville resident since 1990, formerly of Cliffside Park, NJ, died at Putnam Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Holmes on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.
A member of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, Joseph was also actively involved with the Town of Beekman Senior Citizens and the Sons of Italy Joe DiMaggio Lodge. For many years he worked as a carpenter for Mochler Doors, Inc. in New Jersey. He was also a former Merchant Marine.
Born in Cliffside Park, NJ on May 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Sarnicola Schiess. On April 26, 1948, he married Patricia A. Quinn in Elkton, MD. Mrs. Schiess predeceased Joseph just over a month ago on May 31, 2010.
Survivors include two grandsons, Joseph Schiess & his wife Laura of Sarasota, FL and Peter Schiess of FL; brother, Richard Schiess of Little Egg Harbor, NJ; nephew, Stephen Fogarty of Franklin Lakes, NJ; niece, Donna Fogarty of Wyckoff, NJ; nephew, Jeffrey Fogarty of Kinnelon, NJ; also many great nieces & great nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his two sons, Gary and Ronald Schiess.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10 at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 12 at Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, NJ.
