Wappingers Falls - Joseph Spinella entered into rest Saturday, March 7, 2026 at his home. He was 89.
Son of the late Michael and Dorothy Spinella, he was born September 23, 1936 in Fair Lawn, NJ. On May 5, 1962, he married the love of his life Patricia Quinlivan, who predeceased him in 2019. They moved to Wappingers Falls, NY and had been Dutchess County residents for the past 50 plus years He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church.
He is survived by his five children, Michael Spinella (and the late Sarah), Joseph Spinella Jr., George Spinella, Brian Spinella, and Patricia Luzar (John); his grandchildren, Megan, Jack, Henry, Kayley, Emily, and Jacqueline; his sister Ann Defranco; and his nieces and nephews Nick, Anthony, Kelly, and Colleen.
After a long and dedicated career, he retired from IBM in 1993. Earlier in his life, he proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. Known for his laid-back attitude, warm personality, and great sense of humor, he had a way of making friends wherever he went. He had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, never missing an opening day. Some of his happiest moments were spent camping, relaxing at the Jersey Shore, or enjoying time at the lake with family and friends. Joe also loved to read and always had a book in hand. In retirement, he also cherished getting together for monthly lunches with his fellow IBM colleagues.
He enjoyed having Sunday family dinners and big holiday celebrations. He took pride in his grandchildren and spent countless hours at their pageants, concerts, dance recitals, plays, and at sporting events.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday March 12, 2026 from 9-11 am at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church 835 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, and burial in St. Denis Cemetery.
