Joseph Anthony Zanfordino, 76, of Hopewell Junction, NY and formerly of Mt. Vernon, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 due to heart failure following respiratory complications at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT.
Born in Mt. Vernon on March 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Anthony and Edna Zanfordino. Joseph attended Edison High School, Mt. Vernon, NY; served in the US Army during the Korean War; was employed by Harry Goldman, Inc., Bronx, NY, General Motors, Tarrytown, NY, PPG Medical (formerly Honeywell Medical, formerly Electronics for Medicine) and retired after serving as president of Self-Powered Lighting, Nyack, NY. Joe was an avid bowler and reached perfection twice. Always about family and friends, Joe's benevolent spirit will be remembered forever.
Joseph is survived by his wife and longtime friend, Phyllis Helms Zanfordino; his son, Daryl J. Zanfordino, his wife, Micki, and son, Jazzy of Danbury, CT; his daughter Danielle A. Zanfordino of Charlotte, NC and her daughter, Syreena B. Powell-Homer of Swedesboro, NJ and son, Jason A. Powell of Charlotte, NC; his siblings, Anthony Zanfordino, Robert Zanfordino, Louise Rodrick, and loving sister, Mary Marcou all of Mt. Vernon, NY; and his many beloved nieces and nephews and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Ida Fowlkes and his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Hayes Zanfordino, who is survived by her siblings James Hayes of Champaign, IL, Helen Graves of Greensboro, NC, Lois (Charles) Coleman of Mt. Vernon, and Ronald (Judi) Hayes of Lincoln, CA.
In accordance with Joseph's wishes, no services will be held and his ashes will be given to his family.
