Josephine O'Connell, a longtime resident of Cold Spring and formerly of Yonkers, passed away on her 94th birthday, January 11, 2022 at North Westchester Restorative Therapy & Nursing Center in Mohegan Lake.
Daughter of the late John and Julia (Paragallo) Dellova, she was born in Brooklyn on January 11, 1928. On September 14, 1947, she married Robert O'Connell at St. John's Church in Brooklyn. Josephine was predeceased by her husband on June 24, 2006.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and was active with the Town of Philipstown Senior Center. She took great pride in entertaining her family, which always included cooking and serving her loved ones. She enjoyed watching television shows, especially programs in the detective genre such as "Perry Mason" and "Law & Order". She also spent several years working at Shop-Rite in Fishkill.
Josephine is survived by her son, Robert O'Connell of Fishkill; her daughter, Julie Racek & her husband Tommy of Putnam Valley; her grandchildren, Bobby O'Connell & his future wife Michelle Keane, Brian O'Connell & Jason Mittelstaedt, Tara & Neil Madison, and T.C. & Amanda Racek; her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Brianna, Brandyn, Giuliana, and Tommy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Josephine was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Deborah O'Connell (12/25/2021).
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 13 at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 14 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
