Juan B. Pineda ("Negro"), a New York City resident since 1969, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 91.
Son of the late Secundino Pineda and Ana Ventura Florian, he was born in Tamayo, Dominican Republic on July 19, 1931. He served in his native country's military and was honorably discharged prior to emigrating to the United States in 1969.
Negro owned & operated 5th Avenue Grocery in Brooklyn, NY, retiring in 1987. He was a former communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Manhattan.
He is survived by his daughter, Milagros Pineda of White Plains, NY; his son, Juan J. Pineda of LaGrange, NY; his daughter, Yoselin Pineda-McDougal of Bronx, NY; his grandchildren: Gabriel J. Pineda, Daniel J. Pineda, Jariel J. Pineda, and Bianka A. McDougal; as well as many other relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 10 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
A committal service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11 in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
