Beacon- Karen Marie Samuels , a lifelong resident of Beacon, NY, passed away peacefully at home after her short but brave battle with brain cancer on the morning of July 31, 2023 at 74 years old. She was surrounded by her loving family in the minutes, hours and days before her passing.

Karen was born on June 11, 1949 in Beacon NY, the daughter of George and Helen (Aldrich) Vredenburgh, who predeceased her.

She was raised in Beacon, graduating from Beacon High School in 1967.

She attended Christ United Methodist Church and was involved in girl scouts and her school drama club.

On February 19, 1983, she married the love of her life Bernard Samuels in Beacon. He survives at home.

Karen worked and retired from IBM in East Fishkill, NY where she worked in the warehouse and in manufacturing.

Karen was always up for anything, from zip lining to motorcycle riding and travelling the world. She was fun-loving with an infectious laugh. A life so full cannot be confined to a few paragraphs as her love of adventure were too plentiful. She also enjoyed years of hosting Christmas Eve parties and deck parties with friends but more than anything, she loved being with her family.

In addition to her husband Bernie, Karen is survived by her daughter Tanya and her husband John Volkmann of Hopewell Jct, her son Jason Bopp and Dawn Mahoney of Cortlandt Manor, and Merrily & Robin Samuels. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Ava Volkmann and Jake Mahoney and her older sisters Patricia Grosenbeck and her husband James of NH and Nancy Sandford and her partner Joann Darby of Cold Spring; her first husband James Bopp , as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful, near and dear lifelong friends.

Calling hours will be at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill Inc. 1089 Main Street Fishkill, NY on Friday August 4, 2023, from 4pm-7pm.
