Karl Georg Berghofer, 83, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at his home in the loving care of his wife and family. With courage and bravery, he fought a long battle with cancer.
Born on March 12, 1928 in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Karl and Anna Berghofer. He attended schools in Germany and worked for Siemens in Munich. He was employed by IBM, Poughkeepsie for 28 years until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid skier who also enjoyed traveling in his motor home, especially camping in Maine with his grandchildren.
Karl was a 37 year member of Germania of Poughkeepsie, the Germania Singing Society and the New York State Sangersbund. He was also a member of the Hillside Lake Fire Company #3 serving as Fire Chief from 1970-1971, and a member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad for many years.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, the former Margot Jungbauer, whom he married on March 31, 1956 in Peterborough, Canada. He was a dedicated husband, father and Opa who spent countless hours attending his grandchildren's concerts, plays, dance recitals, horse shows and sporting activities, and enjoying every minute.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sandra Mazzuca and her husband Peter of Sarasota, FL and Linda Tacinelli and her husband Charlie of LaGrangeville; his 5 grandchildren, Peter Mazzuca of Sarasota, FL, Erika Mazzuca Galish and her husband Skyler of Sarasota, FL, and Alyssa, Stephen and Alexandria Tacinelli of LaGrangeville.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 325 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
