Obituary

Our beloved Karoline Hildegard Liebler, former resident of Wappingers Falls, NY from 1962 to 2016, died Christmas morning, Saturday, December 25, 2021, while in hospice at Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She was 90 years old. Karoline was born April 26, 1931 in the Bronx, beginning what was to be a great life as a first-generation American with immigrant parents from Slovakia and Germany. She was working as a secretary at age 21 when she met a U. S. Marine, George H. Liebler. They fell in love and married April 27, 1952. So strong was their marriage, she decided to become a Catholic herself, and was a devout follower. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Mother of the Church (Fishkill), and later at Church of St. Christopher (Buchanan). After 64 years of true bliss together and raising four beautiful and successful children, Karoline was widowed when George passed in 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, and by her sister Rita DeMartino and her husband Bill. Survivors include: daughter Gail S. Liebler and her husband John Schultz of Nevada; daughter Donna L. Duffy and her husband Kent of Pleasantville and their children Ryan and Éva; son George S. and his former wife Claudia of Peekskill and their son Jake; and son Steven T. and his wife LaDonne of Germany and their children Michael, Kathryn, and William. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends who were like family to her. When not preparing one of her many delicious meals, like her famous sauerbraten, Karoline kept busy with her commitment to the unborn child and peaceful Right-to-Life protests against abortion, for which she was arrested and jailed on six different occasions! Her always positive attitude and cheerful outlook on life and family will be sorely missed.
