POUGHKEEPSIE - Katherine Berak, 55, died suddenly on November 9, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. An area resident since 1994, she previously lived in Crompond.
Born on October 31, 1970 in Cortlandt, Katherine was the daughter of the late Bernard and Sheila (Murphy) Dever. She had been a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak and more recently at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Falls Church in Wappingers Falls.
Katherine was a warm and nurturing soul who found great joy in gardening and planting, especially her beloved herbs. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and was a devoted fan of Queen. She cared deeply for her five dachshunds-Lily, Ivy, Willow, Scarlet, and Reed and cat Charlie-who brought her endless happiness. Above all, Katherine cherished her family and friends and the precious moments they shared together.
On May 29, 1993 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, she married Steven Berak who survives at home after 32 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children, Julia Berak-Pfohl and her husband Matthew, Rebecca Berak, and Daniel Berak; her siblings, Brian Dever and his wife Robin, Sharone Young and her husband Jay, and Kevin Dever; and her nephews and niece, Devon Young, Connor Young, Morgan Young, Philip Dever, and James Dever. In addition to her parents, Katherine was also predeceased by her brother, Phillip Dever.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 14th from 4 - 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial is be offered on Saturday, November 15th at 10 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1377 East Main Street, Shrub Oak followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.
