Kathryn Litchauer's Obituary
LAGRANGE – Kathyrn "Cookie" Irene (Simmons) Litchauer, 72, died on January 13, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley.
Born in Yonkers on July 3, 1943, Cookie was the daughter of the late William and May (Glover) Guski. She retired from the Town of Cortlandt where she worked as an administrative assistant for over 12 years. "Mrs. Simmons" previously was employed by Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose where she worked with children with special needs. Cookie taught religious education at Assumption Church in Peekskill, where she had been a parishioner and worked at the teen center in Montrose. She will be remembered as being the "Team Mom" for many of her grandchildren's teams.
On April 21, 2001 at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, Cookie married Joseph Litchauer who survives at home. She is also survived by her children, Jimmy Simmons and his children Alexandra and Nicholas of Wappingers Falls, Kathryn Jennings, her husband Jon, and their children Brian and Sean of Hopewell Junction, Dawn Litchauer, her husband Joseph, and their children Kevin and Amber of LaGrange, and Richard Simmons and his daughter Rachel of Poughkeepsie; her siblings, William Guski, James and Kaye Guski, and Helen Moschiano; and many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 15th from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, especially the nurses in the Post Cardiac Unit (PCU), for their care and compassion. Donations may be made in Cookie's memory to honor the PCU staff through the Foundation for VBMC, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
