Kathryn J. Schroeder committed herself to God's care on November 14, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was 92.
She was born in Queens Village Long Island NY on April 6, 1924. She moved to the Mid-Hudson Valley in 1952, living primarily in Wappinger Falls, NY for 44 years and Fishkill, NY for 20 years.
Kappy was the daughter of the late Anthony J. Becker and Theresa Heller Becker. She was married on June 3, 1950 in Middle Village, Long Island, NY, to Arthur H. Schroeder, who predeceased her on November 16, 1981. Also predeceasing her was her beloved sister Evelyn M. Young in 2008 and her oldest son Gary J. Schroeder in 2013. She is survived by her youngest son, Rev. Robert A. Schroeder and daughter-in-law Nancy Schroeder and her three grandsons Stephen J. Elting, Matthew R. Schroeder, Scott N. Stella and her two nieces, Linda Seubert and Georgia Lynn Brockway.
She retired from IBM East Fishkill in 1990, where she was a Senior Procedures Analyst in the Safety/Industrial Hygiene Dept. She was also retired from Wappingers Central School District in 1977, where she served in various positions, including Senior Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and Clerk of the Board of Education.
Kappy was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Fishkill, NY, where she was active for more than fifty years. She was a Certified Hospice Volunteer and Patient Support Group volunteer at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY for 28 years. She was also Certified in Kairos Prison Ministry.
Kappy had a deep, compassionate love for animals. She raised and cared for the canine species for most of her life -- some remembered were her beloved dogs Donna, Candy, Spook, Dieter (Dietrich of Wappingers Falls), Liebchen, Bridgett, Miss Muffet, Lily Marlene, Gretchen, Deidra, Luke and her recently departed Schatze.
Calling hours are this Sunday, November 20th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1400 Rt. 52, Fishkill, NY. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm with Rev. John Young officiating.
