Obituary

POUGHKEEPSIE - Dr. Kenneth M. Glatt, PhD, ABPP, 82, died on December 6, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. An area resident since 1979, he previously lived in New York City.

Dr. Glatt was born on May 25, 1943 to the late Henry and Helen (Fried) Glatt in San Francisco where he spent his childhood. He earned his bachelor's degree from Berkeley College, his master's degree from the University of Minnesota, and earned his PhD from New York University.

Dr. Glatt began his six-decade career in psychology at Kings County Psychiatric Center, where he served from 1969 to 1972. He went on to work at South Beach Mental Health Services from 1972 to 1979, before accepting the role of Dutchess County Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, a position he held with dedication from 1979 until his retirement in 2015. He was the longest serving Commissioner of Mental Hygiene for the county. In addition to his public service, Dr. Glatt was a part-time clinical instructor at Downstate Medical Center from 1972 to 1984 and maintained a private practice, which he established in 1977. He was also an active member of the American Board of Professional Psychology.

During his tenure as Dutchess County Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, Dr. Glatt was deeply committed to strengthening the county's mental health system. He developed a comprehensive model of care for Dutchess County and led several initiatives that had a lasting impact on community safety and well-being. He was instrumental in the installation of suicide-prevention phones on many Hudson River bridges and in establishing the county's toll-free suicide hotline. In the aftermath of 9/11, he also created a trauma response team to support individuals coping with the emotional effects of the tragedy.

On December 27, 2024, he married his love of over 20 years, Joan (Huergo) Micucci-Glatt who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Laura Glatt-Miliambro and her husband Shane of Franklinton, NC; his stepsons, Raymond Micucci and his wife Tracy of Poughkeepsie and Michael Micucci of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Ava and Olivia Miliambro, Emma Attanasio, Christopher Micucci, Hunter Micucci, and Charleigh Micucci; his great-grandchild, Logan Vail; his sister-in-law, Linda Glatt; and his nieces, Natalie and Michelle. In addition to his parents, Dr. Glatt was also predeceased by his brother Steven Glatt; and his step-son Christorpher K. Micucci.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th from 4 - 8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 13th at 12:30 pm.
