RHINEBECK - King Oi Ng, 96, passed away at home on December 14, 2023. She was a resident of Rhinebeck since 1987.
King was born in Taishan, China on April 2, 1927 to the late Hok Kee Ng and Fong Ho Lum. She immigrated to Hong Kong at age 31 and then to the United States at age 49, where she lived in Jackson Heights, Queens and worked as a seamstress in Chinatown. In New York, King later moved to Rego Park, New Hyde Park, and finally Rhinebeck.
On August 29, 1946 King married Fuk Kwong Wong, who predeceased her on November 26, 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Mei Wan Wong and her husband Wai Mun (Raymond) Jung, and her grandchildren, Vanessa Jung, Lydia Jung, and Derek Jung and his wife Joanne Lee.
Her grandchildren remember her as a tireless caregiver, who cooked traditional Chinese dishes for the family and rubbed Tiger Balm on bellies and temples to soothe aches. Later in life, she was baptized at the Mid-Hudson Chinese Christian Church, where she was an enthusiastic member of the Cantonese group. She was an avid knitter and sewer, and in her last years, poured her creative energy into coloring.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mid-Hudson Chinese Christian Church, 306 All Angels Hill Road, Wappingers Falls, NY followed by a luncheon.
