Obituary

POUGHKEEPSIE – LaQuitta "Luckie" Edmonds, a local area resident for over 60 years, died on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 86.
Daughter of the late Fred J. and Verda E. (Hansen) Newhouse, she was born in Malad City, ID on April 16, 1932. During her childhood, Luckie's family relocated throughout the western region of the United States. At a young age, she learned to ride and care for horses, and she and her mother broke and trained horses for the Arizona Sheriff's Posse.
On November 6, 1953, she married Myron W. Edmonds in Fukuoka, Japan. She and Myron then moved to Poughkeepsie, where they raised their family. Luckie was instrumental in the day-to-day actions of her family's farm, where she did everything from tending garden to cutting wood. She cooked genuine, homegrown, farm-to-table meals and was also an excellent seamstress who could tailor clothing and upholstery. She also earned her pilot's license. Above all else, she was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family.
Luckie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and for many years worked as custodian for her church in Poughkeepsie.
She is survived by her husband, Myron, at home in Poughkeepsie; her daughter, Ginger Langer & her husband Joe of Blairsville, GA; her son, Mark Edmonds & his wife Linda of Niota, TN; her grandchildren, Joanne Edmonds, John-Mark Edmonds & his wife Halley, Lacie Shirley & her husband Mark, and Shane Slagle; her brother, Fred Newhouse & his wife Shirley; her brother, Galen Newhouse; her sister, Shana Cheyney & her husband Bob; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
Luckie was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Edmonds Slagle, in 2008.
