Lawrence Raymond McDonough, Jr., 62, a local resident since 1956 and formerly of the Bronx, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Friday, March 18, 2011.
For most of his life, Lawrence worked as a craftsman in the construction industry and retired in 2005. Since that time, he had been working as a bartender for Big Dog's Pub in Beekman.
Golf was his true passion, and he frequented Dogwood Knolls Golf Course, where he was actively involved in league play for many years. His other hobbies included photography and cooking, especially barbecuing. He used his skills developed as a craftsman to create unique and special gifts for his loved ones.
Born in the Bronx on February 17, 1948, he was son of the late Lawrence R. and Bertha A. Friest McDonough, Sr. In 1965, after graduating from high school, Lawrence enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country until being honorably discharged in 1969.
On August 30, 1980, he married Donna L. Mercer in N. Tonawanda, NY. Mrs. McDonough survives at home.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Deonna Wilkinson & her husband David of Arizona; his daughter, Dawn Lopatter & her husband Lewis of Florida; his daughter, Jacki Moloney & her husband Jack of Hyde Park; his son, Jeffrey McDonough & his wife Deanna of Florida; his daughter, Kymberly Scattareggia & her husband Anthony of Albany; his grandchildren, Michael Wilkinson, Samantha Seeman & her husband Jason, Tyler Callahan, Matthew Lopatter, Tyler Parker, Brandon & John Moloney, Brandon, Jeremy & Ryan McDonough, Jerika Jewell & her fiancé Jeff Harris, and Rachelyn Kramer; his great-granddaughters, Penelope and Nora; his sisters, Margaret Kasprzyk & her husband John of Clarence Center, Kathy Ernst of Wisconsin, and Patty Ann Lyons & her husband Robin of Stormville; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service with Military Honors will begin at 8 p.m. in the funeral home immediately following calling hours.
