Leona E. Lucariello, a Dutchess County resident for more than 40 years, died at the Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill on Monday, June 29, 2015. She was 76.
Daughter of the late Walter and Grace Mitchell, she was born in White Plains on February 1, 1939.
Leona worked for many years as a telephone operator at A T & T (formerly New York Telephone Co.) at their locations in both Carmel and Peekskill. Her hobbies included knitting and indoor botany. She spent countless hours volunteering for the Veterans at Castle Point V.A. Medical Center.
In 1998, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Lucariello. They were married for more than 40 years.
She is survived by four sons: Robert Lucariello of California, James Lucariello (Nancie) of Hopewell Junction, John Lucariello (Linda) of Fishkill, and Jeffrey Lucariello of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Alexis Lucariello of Honolulu, HI, Christina Lucariello of Fishkill, and Kimberly Lucariello of Fishkill; two brothers, William Mitchell of Chicago, IL and Robert Mitchell of Massachusetts; her longtime friends, Louise Padavan and Judy Valentino; and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was also predeceased by her brother, Walter Mitchell, Jr.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from the Roosevelt Unit at Wingate at Dutchess for all of their care and support.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
