Obituary

Leonard S. Privitera, a Dutchess County resident since 1997 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at home in Poughkeepsie. He was 67.

Son of the late Antonino and Louise (Desti) Privitera, he was born in the Bronx on May 4, 1956.

Lenny worked as a self-employed roofer. He had a passion for music and always enjoyed going to concerts, especially those he attended with his wife, with performances by The Who, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, and many more. He could always be found riding his motorcycle, as he savored countless rides throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. Lenny also reveled in taking trips to various casinos. He had many great friends and valued those close relationships. More than anything else, however, he truly cherished being a grandfather and spending time with his grandsons. He will be remembered for his independent spirit and was loved by all who knew him.

On September 21, 1982, he married Tara McHale in Davie, FL. He was preceded in death by Tara just five months ago on September 21, 2023.

Survivors include his son, Nicholas Privitera of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Rhiannon Privitera of Youngsville, NC; his daughter, Melissa Cardone; his grandsons, Maximus, Orrin, and Asher; his siblings, Anthony Privitera, Johnny Privitera, Louise Pacione, and Marianne Adam; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon & John Nolan; also many nieces & nephews, including Lily Nolan; and his longtime close friends, William McNamee and Jay Gold; as well as many other loving relatives & friends.

In addition to his wife, Lenny was also predeceased by his beloved son, Ryan Privitera (2019); his sister, Jackie Zaloshinsky; and his twin sister, Vivian Bonfiglio.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 25 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Burial will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery of Lloyd in Highland, NY.
