Lew was born on September 28th, 1959, in Port Chester, NY, the son of the late Lewis and Mary (Alworth) Fitzgerald.
He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, and went on to further his education at Pace University and Mount Saint Mary College.
On February 15th, 1981, he married the one true love of his life, Kathleen, at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. She survives at home.
For the past 45 years, he worked for Verizon Communications as an Engineer.
Locally, Lew attended Calvary Chapel of the Hudson Valley. From 1991-1994, he was the Vice President and Coach for the Wappingers Pop Warner Football League. Lew spent his free time supporting his four children in their various sports, clubs and hobbies. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children. The last fifteen years, this support and love transferred onto his five beautiful granddaughters, whom he fiercely cherished.
Lew woke up every morning and spent time with God, reading his Bible. His greatest pleasure in life was his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. He was always available to lend a helping hand to friends and family and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Kathleen, Lewis is survived by his loving children: Jessica and her husband Erich Schaefer, Kathleen "Katie" Fitzgerald, Lewis Fitzgerald, and Matthew and his wife Amanda Fitzgerald. He is also the Poppa and Grandpa to Lorelei, Emilie and Elizabeth Schaefer, and Harper and Charlotte Fitzgerald. His siblings also survive Lew: William Fitzgerald and his wife Maureen, Mary Fitzgerald, Terrence and his wife Jenny Fitzgerald, his brothers-in-law John Rice, Ronald Rice and his wife Paula, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The last daily devotion on July 11th, 2024 that Lew read and studied was from the Book of Proverbs 18:24 "A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Lew was a true friend in this world and a true friend of Jesus.
