HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Lewis Warren Wright, Sr., 74, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
In 1988, he retired as a software engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, where he had worked for 35 years. Lewis was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in LaGrangeville, the Mid County Rod & Gun Club, LaGrangeville, and the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed basketball and golf. A softball enthusiast, he earned the nickname "The Glider" in his youth.
Born in Hopewell Junction on September 3, 1935, Lewis was son of the late Willard Chester and Ruth Warren Wright. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957.
On January 9, 1960, he married Judith Ashley at St. Henry's Church in Averill Park, NY. Mrs. Wright survives at home.
Lewis is also survived by his son, Lewis W. Wright, Jr. of LaGrange; two daughters, Lisa Pring of Yorktown Heights and Jessica Pelella & her husband Louis of LaGrangeville; grandchildren, Aiden, Alexandra, Ashley, and Louis "Will"; sisters, Dorothy Stockholm & her husband Eugene of LaGrange and Jean Wisseman & her husband Donald of Union Vale; sisters-in-law, Beth Wright of Union Vale and Linda Burrow & her husband John of England; brother-in-law Louis DeSantis of Millbrook; nieces and nephews, Gene, Donald, Barry, Mary Lou, Pamela, Penny, Peter, Timmy, Darleen, Robin, Michelle, Maureen, Patrick, Corrie, Melanie and Debbie; also many other loving family members and close friends.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Willard "Bill" Wright, Jr. and R. Bruce Wright, as well as his sister, Nancy DeSantis.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 18 at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Lewis's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 27 at the Mid County Rod & Gun Club, 650 Waterbury Hill Rd., LaGrangeville with Rev. Amanda Iahn officiating.
