Obituary

Lillian Margaret Rooney, a long-time Mahopac resident, died on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Maplewood Danbury where she had been surrounded by her family throughout the day.

Born in the Bronx in 1929 to Gerald and Bridie Keegan, Lillian attended Saint Raymond elementary school and graduated from Aquinas High School. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in Manhattan. In later years, Lillian worked for the Putnam County Courier in Carmel.

In 1951, she married John Patrick Rooney at Saint Raymond Church in the Bronx, and, in 2001, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a service held at St. John's Church in Mahopac, where they were parishioners. They had been married 52 years when her husband died in 2003.

Lillian is survived by daughter Kathleen Rooney and her husband Mario Mirando of Hopewell Junction, NY, son Michael Rooney of Stamford, Ct. and son Gerard Rooney and his wife Heidi of Hopewell Junction, NY. Lillian's son John Rooney died in 2018 and is survived by his wife Lori. Lillian has six granddaughters, two grandsons, and three great-grandsons.
She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Ford of Somers, NY and Mary Haneke of Richmond, Va., as well as six nieces, eight nephews and their families. Her brother Gerald pre-deceased her.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:30 -7:30pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Catholic funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10am in the chapel at the funeral home, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
