Obituary

On August 4, 2023, after a swift and pain-free illness, the big, bright, beautiful soul of Linda Conboy burst into eternal paradise to delight in the Beatific Vision. She was 76.

Linda Wren was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on January 26, 1947, to Clifford Christopher Aloysius and Maisy (Gerrity) Wren. Her father drove a Good Humor ice cream truck and her big brother was a Marine. Her older sister was the only woman on the planet who could keep her in line, and she did so lovingly. Linda graduated from Maria Regina High School and attended Mater Dei College.

On St. Patrick's Day in 1984, Linda married the love of her life, Francis Conboy, at Saint Catherine's Church in Pelham. She beamed with pride to be the spouse of a Vietnam veteran, first generation Irish-American, labor union president, and Grand Central Terminal locksmith. At the age of 37, Linda became a mother through the birth of her son, Ryan Francis. Five years later, she gave birth to Kerry Marie. Her devotion to her children was relentless.

Linda was a perpetual force of kindness who loved with all of her soul. She possessed an incessant need to be generous. Some of her community service endeavors included driving cancer patients to treatments, organizing events for people with disabilities, leading Scout troops, bringing Communion to the sick and the elderly, and sharing her faith as a Catechist and Columbiette. She traveled extensively throughout Ireland and New York as a Legion of Mary Curia President.

Linda was an ardent friend of Bill Wilson for 47 years, working her 12-step program as if her life depended on it. She was also an animated storyteller with an unshakeable faith in a Higher Power. Her experience, strength, and hope touched the lives of countless alcoholics. Her greatest joy was to support and witness the people she loved find recovery and pass it on.

Linda's witty and sometimes morbid sense of humor left a mark on everyone she met. She always had a story or one-liner that would make us laugh, cry, or cringe. Her spiritual friendships with St. Padre Pio and St. Joseph were as hilarious as they were inspiring. She made life's darkest moments palatable, ordinary moments laughable, and happiest moments memorable.

Linda's welcoming committee includes her husband, Frank Conboy; her siblings Clifford Wren and Marion Foley; her niece and nephews Michael Wren, Ellen Harper, and J. Steven Foley; and her dear friend Fr. Harry Butler.

Besides her beloved children, Linda leaves her precious grandson, Ryan Gabriel; 10 nieces and nephews; 29 grand-nieces and -nephews; and 5 great-grandnieces and nephews. She also leaves Edward & Jean Peterson of Milton and their children Eric, Laura, and John; and Dale & Carol Volker of Lancaster and their children Martin (Gloria), Mark (Alyssa), and Meredith.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at McHoul's Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, in Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Kateri Parish in Lagrangeville.
