Linda
Duryea
May 8, 1939 – March 6, 2025
Linda Duryea, 85, a Hopewell resident since 2011, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after living with multiple sclerosis for over 40 years. She was raised and lived the majority of her life in Scarsdale, NY. Her friends and family remember her as a welcoming hostess and beloved party guest.
Born on May 8, 1939, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Olivia (Thomas) Fox. She worked as a secretary for Edgemont Junior and Senior High School, when it was a part of the Greenburgh School District, for over twenty years until her retirement. Many students and staff recall Linda fondly, just as she recalled her time there.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants, Linda enjoyed watching games and drinking Miller Lite with her husband. She also liked doing jumble puzzles, listening to Elvis Presley, and vacationing with her family in Salisbury Beach, MA.
On March 10, 1962, she married Donald Duryea, who predeceased her on March 12, 2014. She is survived by her daughters, Diana Haggerty and Debra Duryea; her grandchildren, Bridget Haggerty, Casey Haggerty, Maggie Garrison, Justin Maher, Jessica Maher, and Oliva Duryea-Gambro; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Ellie.
Her family left behind finds comfort in the fact that she will once again be with her pre-deceased loved ones: her husband, her brother James Fox, and her son-in-law, Daniel Haggerty.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 13th, at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, from 3 to 7 p.m., with a brief funeral service beginning at 7 p.m.
Donations may be made in Linda's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help those also afflicted or to the Dutchess County ASPCA to honor her love of animals. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
