HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Linda Anna Steinitz Vehlow, 67, an area resident since 1993, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. She previously lived in Bayside, Queens and Flushing, Queens.
Born in the Bronx on September 24, 1947, she was the daughter of Edward Steinitz and the late Elizabeth (Kovacs) Steinitz. On June 24, 1967 in Bayside, Queens, Linda married Richard Otto Vehlow who predeceased her on March 4, 2005.
Linda had been employed as a registered nurse for the New York State Board of Education until her retirement in 2000. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill and a volunteer with the Ileostomy Society. A member of the East Fishkill Democratic Club, she also enjoyed fitness activities especially running and hiking. An environmentalist, Linda was a fan of Pete Seeger.
Linda is survived by her son, Richard Edward Vehlow and his wife Jennifer of Latham, NY; her father, Edward Steinitz of Carmel; her sister, Nancy Steinitz of Carmel; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was looking forward to the arrival of her first grandchild in July 2015.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1400 Route 52, Fishkill followed by interment at Raymond Hill Cemetery.
