Lois Gallagher, only child of William and Mabel (Hustis) Van Winkle, a long-time resident of the Fishkill area, died at home on April 9, 2022.

Born in 1929 in Newark, New Jersey, Lois was the beloved wife of John Gallagher (deceased) and mother of five sons.

Lois worked various jobs through her young life and one of which provided a chance meeting with her husband of 68 years, John Gallagher. They met while she was a teller at a bank in Livingston, NJ. They were married in August of 1952. Lois and her husband retired to Fishkill in 1985 where they lived happily and where she and her husband maintained a lush vegetable garden.

Lois loved genealogy, mystery novels, animals, and had a positive attitude in everything. She compiled a history of her family and traced its roots back to fifteenth-century Netherlands. Lois was also active in the DAR and the Independence Belles.

Lois and her husband were fortunate in later years to have traveled to Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland, Germany and Austria. The couple enjoyed square-dancing with the Do-C-Do club and traveled to Germany with the club.

She is survived by her sons: John (Kathy) of Vernon, NJ; Rick (Sophia) of Newton, NJ; Dan (Elisabeth) of Cortland, NY; Bill (Mary) of Rockaway, NJ; and Mark (Friederike) of Fishkill, NY as well as her 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
