Lorenzo G. "Larry" Calvi, 65, a resident of the Town of Union Vale since 1992 and formerly of Lewisboro and Yonkers, died on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Montrose VAMC following a long illness.
Born in Marina Di Gioiosa Ionica, Italy on June 21, 1946, he was the son of George and Carmela Panetta Calvi. He proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps in Da Nang during the Vietnam War. From 1982-1998, he was the owner and operator of King Pizza & Restaurant, Hastings-on-Hudson. He was a parishioner of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, a volunteer with the Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department and a member of the Millbrook VFW. Larry had an incredible lust for life enjoying football, racquetball, racing cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed the teenagers who hung out at his pizza shop and loved spending time with his family on the farm.
On July 18, 1982 at Christ the King Church in Yonkers, Larry married Mary Jean Figura who survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, Andrew and Matthew Calvi; his brother, George Calvi and his wife Enna of Valhalla; his sister, Elena Barillaro and her husband Alfred of Yonkers; his brother-in-law, Andrew Figura and his wife Pat of Sherman, CT; his sister-in-law, Sr. Madonna Figura, SSCM of Sayre, PA; and his nieces and nephews, Erica, Alex, Pamela, Laura, Alfred, Inna and Mackenzie. He was predeceased by his siblings, Franco, Philip and Carmela Calvi.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by interment in the Clove Cemetery with military honors.
