Loretta Menchen, 98, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1978 and previously of Yonkers, died on December 26, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.
Born on September 29, 1921 in Yonkers, Loretta was the daughter of Alexander and Casimira Piekarski. On November 23, 1944, Loretta married the love of her life, George F. Menchen who predeceased her on October 17, 1992.
She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and enjoyed sewing, gardening and knitting.
Loretta is survived by her children, Gary and Mae of Copake, William and Margaret of Landensburg, PA, Ralph of Midland, NC, Valerie of Wappingers Falls, Anne of Hopewell Junction; her 8 grandchildren; her 6 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Stanley Piekarski and Gertrude Kusiak. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her children, Russell and Virginia.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:15am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
