Lori A. Guarino, 48, an area resident for 35 years, died on Saturday, May 8, 2010 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.
Born on April 24, 1962 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of Anthony Principe and Diann Sandford. Lori was the owner and operator of the Pastry Garden in Hopewell Junction and was involved in many professional organizations. She was formerly employed as a Sales Engineer for 20 years, most recently with Fluke Networks.
On October 12, 1986 in Peekskill, Lori married Vincent J. Guarino. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, Anthony and Stephanie Principe of Stormville and Diann and Doug Sandford of Hopewell Junction; her daughters, Sarah and Melissa Guarino, at home; her sisters, Lisa Kemmerer of LaGrangeville and Lynn Vogel of Poughquag; her mother-in-law, Theresa Guarino of Beacon; her father-in-law, Joseph Guarino of Florida; her brothers-in-law, Michael Kemmerer and Eric Vogel; her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Donna and Pete Garrison of New Windsor, and Theresa and Eric Cuchelo of Fishkill; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their lake cabin in the Adirondacks, as well as taking annual cruises and camping trips. Her biggest passion in life was her two daughters. Her two-year battle with cancer truly inspired so many people, and she will be deeply missed.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in the Clove Cemetery.
