LAGRANGEVILLE - Lorraine Mary Sheerin, 89, an area resident since 1974, died at home surrounded by her family on August 27, 2024. She previously lived in Staten Island.
Born in Brooklyn on September 23, 1934, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Florence Geiser. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from St. John's University in New York. She started working as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York before her 15-year career with the New York State Department of Corrections at Green Haven Correctional Facility and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility before retiring in 1996. However, her biggest title was being the "Official Chauffeur" of her children for their various sporting events, practices, and activities.
Lorraine was a parishioner at St. Kateri Church in Lagrangeville where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She liked traveling, especially to Europe and the Cayman Islands. She cherished many memories with her family as they explored the country together in their RV.
On September 10, 1960 at St. Edmund's Church in Brooklyn, Lorraine married Charles J. Sheerin who survives at home after 64 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Peter and Barbara Sheerin of Lexington, KY, Catherine and Jeffrey Trunk of Boca Raton, FL, and Thomas and Jeannine Sheerin of Ringwood, NJ; her grandchildren, Mary, Anne, Sarah, Veronica, Amanda, Morgan, and Joshua; her brother, Kenneth Geiser; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 10 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
