BEEKMAN - On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, Lorraine M. Travia died peacefully in her sleep. She was an area resident for over forty years.
Born in Yonkers on January 8, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Casimira (Piekarski) Sachar. On November 5, 1966 at St. Casimir's Church in Yonkers, Lorraine married the love of her life, Robert F. Travia, who predeceased her on September 19, 1996. She was a self-employed accountant for many years. Lorraine loved spending time with family and was proud of her Polish heritage. Traveling, playing card games and Mahjong on Fridays are among the things she loved. Lorraine loved watching the NY Yankees.
As a very devout Catholic, Lorraine was a faithful parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville; the founder of St. Denis - St. Columba - St. Kateri Widows and Widowers' Group, a member of the Altar Rosary Society and instrumental in the establishment of the Bereavement Support Group.
She will be remembered lovingly by her three daughters, Jeannine Fountain and her husband Brian, Elizabeth Gannon, and Rachel Goione and her husband, John. Lorraine is survived by her son, Robert Travia Jr. and his wife Leslie. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Lauren, Travis, Hunter, Paige, Shane, Anna, Carter, Kevin and Katie. Lorraine is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Telfer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Thomas and Vincent Sachar.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 9:30-11:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 12 pm at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church.
