Lorraine E. Whalen, 98, died on January 23, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born on November 12, 1918 in Glendale, Queens, she was the daughter of Peter and Anna Steubing. On August 22, 1942 at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, Lorraine married James R. Whalen who predeceased her on August 11, 1974.

Lorraine is survived by her sons, James Whalen Jr. and his wife Nivia, and Richard Whalen; her grandchildren, Jimmy and Kelly Whalen, Joey Whalen, Tommy and Sharon Whalen, Shannon Whalen-Fauteux, and Shawn Whalen and his fiancé Ashley Ventura; her great-grandchildren, Rachel, Hunter, Harleigh, Frank, Emma, and Michael; her brother, Lawrence Steubing; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her dear friends, Dolores Ruchin, George Conrad, and Rudy Sekely. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Whalen, on January 27, 2013.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am at the funeral home followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
