Louis A. Alfonse, a life-long area resident, passed away at age 79 at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Pawling. He was born on May 16, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, NY to parents Louis and Irene (Kelley) Alphonse. On September 1, 1962 at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, he married the love of his life Carol (Kernaghan) Alfonse. Carol, his loving wife of 60 years survives at home.
Louis proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1961-1965. He was stationed at the Portsmouth, NH naval yard. He was in the Navy Reserves from 1965-1967. Louis enjoyed a long career as a manufacturing manager at IBM in East Fishkill from 1965 all the way up until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement, he drove a tractor trailer cross country, and loved taking in all the beautiful scenery along the way. He finished his working days building kitchens for Westchester Modular Homes.
In his spare time, he loved woodworking, loved to build, hunt, and was very proud to be involved in the POW/MIA rides on his Harley Davidson.
In addition to his beloved wife Carol, Louis is survived by his 3 sons: Robert (Fonda) Alfonse of St. Petersburg, FL, Tony (Carolynn) Alfonse of Clayton, NC, and Brian (Vanessa) Alfonse of LaGrangeville, NY; his grandchildren: Heather, Stephen (Ashley), Olivia and Alexandra Alfonse; and great-grandchildren Adaline and Josiah; his siblings: John Alphonse of New Jersey, Michael Alphonse of Poughkeepsie, NY and Joseph Alphonse of North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to both parents, Louis was predeceased by his sister Renee Alphonse.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday January 18th, 2023 from 5-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday January 19th, 2023 at 11am at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, followed by burial in St. Denis Cemetery.
