Louis A. Panarello, 75, a resident of LaGrangeville for almost 60 years, died on Friday, April 9, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 13, 1935 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella (DeLorenzo) Panarello. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was employed as a Corrections Officer for the State of New York at Greenhaven Correctional Facility for 25 years. Following his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated Lou & Dee's Corner Store in Billings for 15 years where he treasured the many friends he made. For 50 years and until his death, he was the caretaker for the Cuneo Estate in LaGrangeville, a job he took great pride in.
Lou enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons, cooking Sunday dinners and, above all, spending time with his family whom he treasured the most. He was known for his generosity and for helping those in need.
On May 3, 1958 at Holy Trinity Church in Long Branch, NJ, Lou married Deanna D'Averso, the love of his life for 52 years, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children Theresa Oellrich and her husband Richard of Laurens, Louis Panarello and his wife Linda of LaGrangeville, Christopher Panarello and his wife Terri of LaGrangeville, Giancarlo Panarello and his wife Christine of Wappingers Falls and Cara Corbin and her husband Jay of LaGrangeville; his grandchildren, Noel Tarrants, Eric Oellrich, C.J. Panarello, Louis Panarello, Gina Panarello, Kaitlyn Panarello, Dominic Panarello, Giovanna Corbin and Darienne Panarello; his great-grandchildren, Carter and Elieanna Tarrants; his brothers, Robert Panarello of Lindenhurst, Joseph Panarello of Florida and Albert Panarello of Staten Island; his brother-in-law, Edward D'Averso of LaGrangeville; his closest friends, Reno and Linda Bo of Hopewell Junction; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Alphonso and Alfred Panarello; and his sister Gloria Vassalo.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
