Louise I. Salerno, a resident of Fishkill since 2005 and former longtime resident of Yonkers, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 95 years old.
Born on November 24, 1930, in Yonkers, New York, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Cristina (Simonetti) Dippolito. On August 29, 1954, Louise married the love of her life, James Vincent Salerno, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Yonkers.
Louise was a dedicated professional for over 40 years, working for Guaranty Trust Co. of New York and Gestetner Duplicator Corp., and served as an executive assistant at Equifax Inc. and Aetna Life Insurance in White Plains, retiring in 1990.
Beyond her professional life, Louise was extraordinarily talented with her hands. She was an avid needle pointer, knitter, crocheter, and seamstress who took great pride in creating beautifully crafted Afghans and works of needlepoint art. Her talents truly shone in the kitchen, where she poured her heart into cooking traditional Italian recipes for her family. She loved unwinding with word puzzle books and was an avid reader of her favorite novels - often on route to Atlantic City-and practicing her faith as a devoted parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Above all else, her world revolved around her children and her grandchildren, whom she showered with unending love and devotion.
Louise is survived by her loving children: George Salerno of Fishkill, James Salerno, Jr. of Wappingers Falls, and Lynda Weber and her husband, Alan, of West Simsbury, CT; her cherished grandchildren, Robert Weber of West Hartford, CT, and Matthew Weber of New York City; her brother, Angelo Dippolito of Flemington, NJ; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James V. Salerno; her parents, Antonio and Cristina (Simonetti) Dippolito; her brothers, John and Michael Dippolito; and her daughter-in-law, Karen (Frattura) Salerno.
In keeping with Louise's wishes, a private funeral was held. She was laid to rest with her husband, James, at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
Memorial donations may be made in Louise's memory to PETA (peta.org), the ASPCA (aspca.org), or the Animal Rescue Foundation in Beacon, New York (arfbeacon.org).
