Lucy Knanishu, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 2001, and previously of Novato, California, Tappan, New York, and Pine Brook, New Jersey, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on December 31, 2022. She was 92. Born on July 17, 1930, in Wallington, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Kurt and Matilda (Leiberger) Schirmacher. In 1939 her family moved to Germany and lived there until her return in 1947. Lucy attended elementary school in Clifton, New Jersey, and high school in Emmendingen, Germany. She earned her Associate's Degree from Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York and completed art courses at NYU for hand lettering and advertising layout, and the College of Marin and Indian Valley College for word processing and computer training. In 1952, Lucy married the love of her life, Sander L. Knanishu, he predeceased her on January 18, 1987. Lucy held many jobs including caring for children and disabled adults, bookkeeping, editing, and artistry. She retired from DirectBuy in Wappingers Falls in 2012. She was a wonderful violinist and artist. Lucy leaves behind her daughter, June Grossman and her husband, Larry of Wappingers Falls; her daughter, Linda Knanishu of Novato, California; her son, Glenn Knanishu and his wife, JoAnne of Tannersville, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Nancy Kadish and her husband, Phill of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Rachel Grossman, Richard Ortiz, Alexandra Bardy (Richard), Nicolette Smith (Steven), Justin Kadish (Marissa), Vladislavs Kadish; her great grandchildren, Carter, Grant, Madison, Ellianna, Charlotte, Sawyer, and Atlas; her sister, Erica Schirmacher; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Ronnie, Linda Carol, Nina, Juliet, Jennifer, Jane, Jeffrey, Carol, and Carlton. Lucy was predeceased by her granddaughter, Christina Knanishu in 2013 and her nephew, Bobby.
