Luis H. Ocasio Vega, 89, a 15 year resident of Beacon, formerly of the Bronx and Puerto Rico, died at the Montefiore North Division Hospital in the Bronx on Friday, March 12, 2010.
Born in San German, Puerto Rico on July 20, 1920, he was son of the late Telesforo Ocasio and Margarita Vega. While living in Puerto Rico, Luis worked in the sugar cane industry for many years, and at the age of 62, he retired as a factory worker in Long Island City. Luis had a passion for dancing and was very proud of his Puerto Rican heritage. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon.
He is survived by his son, Luis Ocasio & his wife Mirta of Hopewell Junction; his daughter, Carmen Rivera of the Bronx; his siblings, Margarita Jiminez Ocasio & her husband Jose of Beacon, Clara Ocasio of Highland, Nelson Ocasio & his wife Anna of Fishkill, Gloria Ocasio of the Bronx, and Nerieda Rivera of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.
Luis was predeceased by his son, Rolando Ocasio in 2002, as well as many brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow St., Beacon. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
